A recent European consumer safety study, carried out by Test-Aankoop in Belgium, Stiftung Warentest in Germany, and Forbrugerrådet Tænk in Denmark, has raised serious concerns about the materials used in low-cost jewelry sold through unregulated online marketplaces. Many of these products – from necklaces to fashion accessories -were found to contain dangerously high levels of toxic metals such as cadmium, nickel, and lead.
These heavy metals can cause skin allergies, infections, and organ damage – risks that are even greater for jewelry that comes into direct contact with the skin.

While the study focused on general jewelry, its findings are particularly relevant for ear and body piercing.
Piercing earrings come into contact with open skin, making the use of safe, certified, and traceable materials absolutely essential to avoid allergic reactions or infections.
